Pagan Feast Recipes

As with traditional holidays each pagan holiday has a significant meaning. Following is the holiday with a short description of its meaning and then the recipes. These recipes are NOT my personal recipes and have been collected over a long period of time. Credit is given when available. If you see a recipe that is yours please email me and let me know so that I can give you your due credit.

Samhain - October 31

Welcoming of the Crone Goddess. Samhain is the ending of the old year and the beginning of the new. The days are shorter and nature is dying back into the earth awaiting a new birth. This is the time of year to look within oneself releasing the old and looking forward to the new. Introspection and Regeneration are the key.

Yule - December 19-22

Celebration of the Mother of Air. The shortest day of the year meaning it is also the longest night of the year. Also known as Winter Solstice. Beginning of winter. We go deeper within ourselves - a form of hibernation. Within this path searching within is a key. We take the time during this season to look within and get to know ourselves, release the items that no longer serve us and start working on those attributes that we want to bring into our lives. Just as the world outside is covered in snow and all seems desolate so do our souls at this time of year. We are going within to become renewed at Imbolc.

Imbolc - February 1-2

Celebration of the Maiden Goddess. Hope of new beginnings. Beginning of the renewal of earth. Signs that Spring is on it's way. Time of Inspiration. We begin to start looking out into the world again embracing the inner changes that we have worked on throughout the past two holidays.

Oestre - March 19-22

Celebration of Mother of Fire and Rebirth. Equal hours of light and darkness, signalling the return of light. Mother Earth begins it's renewal. Spring arrives! Rebirth, new birth all symbolizing the renewal. The sun begins to shine more. The birds begin to sing and building their nests. We are revitalized. Illumination is the key.

Beltane - May 1

Celebration of Goddess as lover. Fertility is the key. The earth is ablaze in color with flowers, trees and all of nature blooming and blossoming.

Litha - June 19-22

Celebration of Mother of Water. Longest day of the year. Also known as Summer Solstice. Beginning of Summer. Days are long, nights are short. Water is used for cleansing, healing and blessings. It is the time of children and childlike play. It is a time to celebrate the ending of the waxing year and the beginning of the waning year, in preparation for the harvest to come. Midsummer is a time to absorb the Sun's warming rays and it is another fertility Sabbat, not only for humans, but also for crops and animals.

Lammas - August 1

Celebration of the Mother Goddess. The fields on our Mother Earth are filled with fruit, vegetables and an abundance of crops. This is the first Harvest Festival of the year. Days grow shorter and the nights longer.

Mabon - September 19-22

Celebration of Mother Earth. Autumn Equinox. Harvesting of the remaining crops. The Mother Earth begins her journey back into herself as plants begin to die and return to her. We begin our journey to prepare for winter.
